Singapore Ho!

Good morning everyone!

I’m writing this whilst I’m on the bus to Singapore. It’s 8.51am now and I’m about 2 hours away from Singapore. Just discovered to my horror that not all the seats on Aeroliner have plug points. Thankfully the seat in front of me was empty so I swapped seats! Bwa ha ha ha ha! I’m really looking forward to Singapore. Here’s what I have planned for the next 3 days:

  1. Fireworks & countdown at Marina Bay tonight
  2. Sentosa Island tomorrow
  3. Jurong Birdpark and the Singapore Zoo (maybe)
  4. The much heard about Night Safari
  5. Shopping on Saturday (Funan IT and maybe Orchard for some clothing)

After I drop off my luggage at Hotel 81 Bencoolen, the day starts and I daresay it’s gonna be fun. I hope I can get data access with the Singtel Prepaid SIM that I’ll be purchasing when I get in to Singapore.

Anyways, it’s been a good year overall. Work’s been a blast especially my experiences working with Microsoft on launching Windows 7. Did I mention I love Windows 7 even though I have a Mac? Anyways here are some things that I’m thankful for as I close 2009 and enter 2010:

  1. A tonne of movies with UP, Star Trek & Sherlock Holmes being the most notable
  2. The great friends I have especially my buddies J-son and Roland
  3. My matte black DSi and Metroid Prime Pinball
  4. Windows 7 & Snow Leopard
  5. The Windows 7 experience at work
  6. Blu-rays!
  7. Better performance at work and great colleagues – am definitely much better at delegation and am more confident now in the things I can contribute at the office
  8. Cluster leadership
  9. Finally getting up the 440 Records website with the help of WordPress
  10. My HTC Touch Pro and Unlimited Mobile Internet with Maxis

It’s been an awesome year but it’s been also a challenging one. The one thing I look forward to in 2010 is more restedness in God. Of everything in life; I guess that’s what I find lacking in my life.

Here’s to a good new year’s eve to all of ya, don’t drink too much and don’t strain those necks staring at fireworks in the sky … Happy New Year and I’ll see ya’ll in 2010!

Double Trouble

Terminate the Enterprise?

Terminate the Enterprise?

The weekend was pretty hectic. Helped out at a Youth Camp on Saturday and Sunday morning. Rushed back to Pee Jay for Star Trek (picked up some Baskin Robbins along the way too) and celebrated my aunt’s 70th birthday with my cousins.

Now back to the real purpose of this post. For the first time in a long time I watched 2 movies twice. Caught Terminator: Salvation on Thursday and Friday last week; Star Trek during its opening week and one more time yesterday with my cell members.

Star Trek was so much more AWESOME the 2nd time round and yes Zachary Quinto is great as Spock. Funnily enough in both movies I’ve found that I liked the supporting characters more. Sure, one might argue that Spock is a central character in his own right but technically Kirk is the hero of Star Trek as is the case in most stories. Sam Worthington’s Marcus Wright is a favourite of mine too as opposed to Christian Bale’s John Connor in Terminator: Salvation. Supporting characters play a great part in a movie and it’s rare these days that the strength of a movie can be placed on just one character. Point to note: one doesn’t always have to be the main character to be great in a movie.

Ah life is good in movie land this summer. Star Trek & Terminator: Salvation were both great and I “wonder” just what’s Up next?

P.S. If any of you are up to winning some hi-tech gear, there’s a blogging and video contest with great prizes that’ll reward your creative juices. Check it out here!

JJ Abrams did a great job here!

I know, I know some of the big Trek fans hated it and my colleague Wei Min hated it loads because of plot holes and all. Beware of spoilers if you follow the link to WM’s blog ya? Everyone’s entitled to an opinion so here’s mine.

To be honest I didn’t notice the plot holes and I loved every minute of the movie. It was visually attractive with a solid cast and a plot that was well put together. In short, JJ Abrams has managed to update the Star Trek franchise while retaining a connection to the series’ that came before. I foresee further movies and perhaps a TV series somewhere down the road.

I enjoyed the movie immensely and was riveted to the screen the entire time. Give this one a whirl. It’s worth every Ringgit spent. I may even watch again next weekend if my cellies respond about next weekend’s cell fun get-together.

Till next time – LIVE LONG & PROSPER!
