I didn’t feel like going home today after church so I absconded my mom & brother to KLCC to catch Cowboys & Aliens and I expected a B-grade-ish kinda watch. With a title like “Cowboys & Aliens” what would you expect? I’m glad I gave this one a spin cos’ it was a really really good mix of sci-fi & western action.
Daniel Craig & Harrison Ford made for a strong pairing and it didn’t hurt that Olivia Wilde is sight for sore eyes. The pair of Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman did a bang up job with the screenplay and kudos too to Jon Favreau for actually topping Iron Man in this one.
The movie starts off with enough mystery & viewers to lead viewers into the story and from that point onwards it’s hook, line & sinker! Cowboys & Aliens had it all! Great action. Great characters. Touching moments. And of course let’s not forget pretty cool special effects.
I really enjoyed this one and IMHO it’s a sleeper hit. The only problem is that it’ll probably only be watched by those who can get beyond the corny & deceiving movie title. Cowboys & Aliens is a must-watch!!!
I give this one a gun-zapping and lasso-tossing 5 out of 5!
The weekend’s come and gone but here’s a memento to remember Iron Man 2 courtesy of MySciFiOutpost having 2 dudes dressed up as Iron Man & War Machine in 1U. Heh.
Iron Man, War Machine & Me
Surprisingly my 2nd watch with my some of my cellies was a lot enjoyable than my first. I must say that part of my disappointment with Iron Man 2 was the fact that I loved Iron Man so much and my expectations was really high. I suspected that a 2nd watch would be better and I was right!
In hind-sight I think Jon Favreau did a good job with the movie but I still have an utter disdain for the birthday party scene in which Tony Stark gets drunk in his armour. That scene leaves a huge distaste in my mouth. Yucks! It’s an awful scene. Iron Man 2’s a keeper for sure cos’ I’ll definitely pick it up on Blu-ray when it comes out which speaks a lot for the movie actually despite my initial review.
Have a good weekend ya’ll, And if you haven’t yet caught Iron Man 2 do lower your expectations or better yet have no expectations at all cos’ you’ll enjoy the movie a whole lot more with that mindset. Also, don’t forget to wait for the credits to play out for a lead-in to Marvel Studio’s upcoming big super-hero release in 2011.
Iron Man Month continues with a brand new article on the science behind Tony Stark’s armour. This time Ryan Haupt takes a look at the user interface (UI) in Iron Man’s suit and some possible tech that could be used to control it.
On another note, I already have my tickets for Iron Man 2 and am so looking forward to catching it tomorrow. Expectations are running high for this one and I’m kicking my fingers crossed that Jon Favreau does a great job with the sequel or does a one-up on the 1st Iron Man flick.
Aaaah! I’ve finally managed to catch up on some trailers off Apple.com so here’s an addendum to my list of movies that I’m looking forward to this year.
Daybreakers I never thought I’d wanna watch a movie like this but after checking out the trailer I must say that Ethan Hawke’s latest looks promising. Vampires. Humans. A somewhat post-apocalyptic future where humanity is the last of its kind. It has all the hallmarks of a good exciting big-screen romp. I can’t wait!
Inception Batman Begins & The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan returns with this interesting movie that has a premise which I have yet to decipher. The trailer is really cool and piques your curiosity enough to actually wanna watch this one. Oh, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio in case you don’t know.
Iron Man 2 What can I say. I loved Robert Downey Jr. in the 1st one and I’m definitely onboard for the 2nd instalment.Jon Favreau definitely gets what Iron Man is all about. Marvel Studios is doing a bang up job with their franchises and there’s lots to look forward to in the next 2 years with Thor and The Avengers in the pipeline.
I just caught Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus last night so look out for a review in a bit. I didn’t like the movie but I guess I’ll leave my thoughts for later when I get down to writing my review.
Iron Man 2!!!! Man. I can’t waaaaaait for it to be released!
It’d be great to see what Jon Favreau has up his sleeve in Shellhead’s next big-screen adventure. News on the movie has been scarce and I’m thrilled that Marvel has released some production stills to whet fans’ appetites. I’ve always liked War Machine‘s look and the armour design looks absolutely awesome for the upcoming movie. Unfortunately, the official Iron Man 2 site is still in teaser phase which is quite disappointing, all I got from the site was a glowing Iron Man chest plate with the number 2 on my screen. It’d be pretty cool to get some wallpapers and downloads for my desktop but nada, there’s nothing on the site. What a waste!
Some thoughts on the character: Iron Man has evolved a whole lot as a character in recent years. I’m liking the direction that comic book creators are taking with the character. I’m tempted to pick up more Iron Man stuff especially trades of his recent adventures being on the run from Norman Osborn a.k.a. The Green Goblin. It should make for an interesting read and it should satiate my Iron Man urges for the time being. May 7th can’t come soon enough. Maybe I should just watch my copy of Iron Man on Blu-ray again sometime this weekend. 😉
Stay tuned for more Iron Man goodness in future posts!
