Great Expectations

The morning finds me here at heaven’s door
A place I’ve been so many times before
Familiar thoughts and phrases start to flow
And carry me to places that I know so well
But dare I go where I don’t understand
And do I dare remember where I am
I stand before the great eternal throne
The one that God himself is seated on
And I I’ve been invited as a son
Oh I I’ve been invited to come and

Believe the unbelievable
Receive the inconceivable
And see beyond my wildest imagination
Lord I come with great expectations

So wake the hope that slumbers in my soul
Stir the fire inside and make it glow
I’m trusting in a love that has no end
The savior of this world has called me friend
And I I’ve been invited with the son
Oh I I’ve been invited to come and

We’ve been invited with the son
And we’ve been invited to come and

Believe the unbelievable
Receive the inconceivable
And see beyond our wildest imagination
Lord we come with great expectations

Much of Him

All Things New

All Things New

This song off Steven Curtis Chapman’s album All Things New has been speaking to me a whole lot of late. I’ve italicised some bits that mean a great deal to me every time I listen to the song. Have a good Tuesday ya’ll.

Much of You

How could I stand here
And watch the sun rise
Follow the mountains
Where they touch the sky
Ponder the vastness
And the depths of the sea
And think for a moment
The point of it all was to make much of me
Cause I’m just a whisper
And You are the thunder and

I want to make much of You, Jesus
I want to make much of Your love
I want to live today to give You the praise
That You alone are so worthy of
I want to make much of Your mercy
I want to make much of Your cross
I give You my life
Take it and let it be used
To make much of You

And how can I kneel here
And think of the cross
The thorns and the whip and the nails and the spear
The infinite cost
To purchase my pardon
And bear all my shame
To think I have anything worth boasting in except for Your name
Cause I am a sinner
And You are the Saviour

I want to make much of You, Jesus
I want to make much of Your love
I want to live today to give You the praise
That You alone are so worthy of
I want to make much of Your mercy
I want to make much of Your cross
I give You my life
Take it and let it be used

To make much of You

This is Your love, oh God
Not to make much of me
But to send Your own son
So that we could make much of You

For all eternity

I want to make much of You Jesus
I want to make much of Your love
I want to live today to give You the praise
That You alone are so worthy of
I want to make much of Your mercy
I want to make much of Your cross
I give You my life
Take it and let it be used
To make much of You

I want to make much of You
Much of You Jesus

Lightning!

Lightning!

Hi guys,

Here are some things that I’m thankful for this week:

  • Early nights & sleep! It’s doing wonders for my cough. There is no substitute to rest in recovering from sickness especially when one gets older. 😛
  • Good friends who have been an encouragement to me this week. Thank God for all my buds!
  • My new Motorola S9 Bluetooth headset that allows me to enjoy music & sermons on-the-go via A2DP. Thanks J-son!
  • Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3. The graphics are gorgeous and it’s thankfully fun to play despite the linearity. I’m in Chapter 8 already. Look out for a full review once I’m done with the game.
  • Steven Curtis Chapman! I’ve been listening to “Beauty Will Rise” all morning.

Why not take a minute to be thankful today?

A Declaration of Dependence

This is my declaration of dependence
This is my declaration of my need
This is my declaration of dependence
On the one who gave His life to me

The lyrics you’ve just read have been playing in my car & echoing in my head every day on my daily commute to PJ and reminds me of my need to be dependent on God. I don’t know why, but I’ve been hooked on reacquainting myself with the brilliant lyrics and song-writing of Steven Curtis Chapman in recent weeks. If you have not listened to any of his stuff before; you should.

Steven Curtis Chapman is an inspiration to me. Why? Well, the amazing thing about Mr. Chapman is his faith and continued perseverance in following God. His music & life inspires me to keep pressing on even though things aren’t hunky dory all the time. The tragic death of his youngest daughter Maria Sue last year struck a chord in my heart and in Mr. Chapman I see someone who continues to hold on to God despite the circumstances. He’s even started an charity organisation called “Show Hope” that mobilises individuals and communities to care for orphans internationally. He and his wife Mary Beth have also adopted kids into their family which is an awesome thing indeed. I won’t go too much into SCC but if you’re interested to find out more about him there’s always Wikipedia and his official site at www.stevencurtischapman.com. On to the main thing about my post – scroll on down please. 😉

Mr. Chapman, you're an inspiration to many.

Mr. Chapman, you're an inspiration to many.

SCC’s music has been a big part of my life and a big part of my walk with God in my adult years. The  lyrics of his songs speak volumes to me and I love the layers & textures that come alive in his music. “Speechless” is a 10-year old album and it still remains fresh & relevant today as it did 10 years ago. Really good stuff.

I only have 3 of his albums and they are:

  • Speechless
  • Declaration
  • All About Love (an album dedicated to his wife Marie Beth)

As I write this I looked up Mr. Chapman’s discography online and gosh I can’t believe I’ve missed out on quite a few of his albums in the past 6 years or so… something that I intend to rectify starting with “Beauty Will Rise”; an album dedicated to the memory of Maria Sue that was just released this year. If you haven’t had the opportunity to listen to any of his stuff, you really should cos’ SCC’s songs are life-changing. I think that Mr. Chapman’s songs are brilliant and the great thing about his music is that everything he writes points back to God and is a reminder that music is such a God-given thing. Music does so much more and means so much more when it’s written in honour of our Creator. I really would urge any serious music fan, songwriter or musician to take a listen to SCC cos’ I can’t even begin to describe the impact that you’ll have as you delve into the lyrics and the rich tapestry of sound that make up his music.

Mr. Chapman, if you ever read this post I just wanna thank you for your music. I wanna thank you for your example and the difference you make in the world through charity but more importantly through the sharing of your life in your lyrics & melodies. Today’s post goes out to you Mr. Chapman. Thank you.

I close today’s post with the lyrics of another of his songs that I’ve been listening to over & over again in the past few weeks. Enjoy.

Speechless

Words fall like drops of rain
My lips are like clouds
I say so many things
Trying to figure You out
But as mercy opens my eyes
My words are stolen away
With this breathtaking view of Your grace

And I am speechless I’m astonished and amazed
I am silenced by Your wondrous grace
You have saved me
You have raised me from the grave
And I am speechless in Your presence now
I’m astounded as I consider how
You have shown us
A love that leaves us speechless

So what kind of love could this be
That would trade heaven’s throne for a cross
And to think You still celebrate
Over finding just one who was lost
And to know You rejoice over us
The God of this whole universe
It’s a story that’s too great for words

Oh how great is the love
The Father has lavished upon us
That we should be called
The sons and the daughters of God

We are speechless so amazed
We stand in awe of Your grace
We stand in awe of Your mercy
You have saved us
We stand in awe of Your love
From the grave
We are speechless

We are speechless in Your presence now
We stand in awe of Your cross
We’re astounded as we consider how
We stand in awe of Your power
You have shown us
A love that leaves us speechless
We are speechless

I am speechless

Magnificent Obsession

Here are the lyrics to a song by my favourite contemporary Christian singer-songewriter that means so much to me cos’ there are just so many times when I find myself “obsessed” with everything else but the one who should be my all in all.

Magnificent Obsession
By Steven Curtis Chapman

Lord, You know how much
I want to know so much
In the way of answers and explanations
I have cried and prayed
And still I seem to stay
In the middle of life’s complications
All this pursuing leaves me feeling like I’m chasing down the wind
But now it’s brought me back to You
And I can see again

This is everything I want
This is everything I need
I want this to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You, Jesus
Be my magnificent obsession

So capture my heart again
Take me to depths I’ve never been
Into the riches of Your grace and Your mercy
Return me to the cross
And let me be completely lost
In the wonder of the love
That You’ve shown me
Cut through these chains that tie me down to so many lesser things
Let all my dreams fall to the ground
Until this one remains

You are everything I want
You are everything I need
I want You to be my one consuming passion
Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You
I want it all to be for You

You are everything I want
And You are everything I need
Lord, You are all my heart desires
You are everything to me
