The GH Green Bag
Of late I’ve been a lot more conscious about going green and I’ve been trying to carry re-usable bags with me instead of depending on plastic bags. In fact I carry a small bag with me for shopping in my laptop bag. Sadly, I’ve still not really gotten into the habit of using it cos’ I usually don’t shop after work so I’m still quite a ways off from making it a habit.
Solution: Carry more of these bags in my other backpacks.
Here’s hoping I can be more green in future. The world can be a greener place if each of us take a small step each to help reduce waste. We’ve only got one planet. God ain’t gonna give us another (I think).
In order to be more accountable, I just pledged to go green at DiGi’s Deep Green site and created the uber cool badge below on the site.

DiGi's iPhone entry
The hottest news in the telco scene right now is DiGi’s entry into the smartphone space with its very own iPhone plans. iPhone fans are all a buzz about the whole thing and my own brother pre-ordered the thing. It’s great to see another telco enter the market. It gives us (the consumer) choice. I can’t wait to see what DiGi brings to the playing field.
On another note, I’ve been around iPhones for a long time and I doubt I’d ever get one as a primary phone. I still like physical keyboards and all this touchscreen virtual keyboardness doesn’t seem to fit the bill for me. I still prefer my HTC Touch Pros physical keyboard and even though the delete key isn’t responsive now I’d still go for a device that doesn’t depend exclusively on its screen for input. Admittedly, the iPhone does have a great variety of affordable apps and out of all the smartphones out there it’s definitely the sexiest. I dunno … Maybe if I have excess cash to spare or maybe when the rumoured iPhone 4G comes out. We’ll see. I’m still not convinced about the iPhone’s ability to function as a work phone. It still feels like a fun phone that’s more a toy than some of the other devices that’s out in the market now.
In the meantime, the iPhone 3GS is finally available with someone else other than Maxis which is great for consumers all over Malaysia! As for me … well, I’m gonna wait for Windows Phone 7 Series before I decide on a new smartphone. I can’t wait to see how Microsoft is going to level the playing field with it’s revamped mobile OS. If you’ve been waiting to jump on the iPhone bandwagon, I suppose now’s the time to do it. DiGi’s data plans have always been the best value for money in the market, and I trust they’ll do the same here with their iPhone bundles.

Switch to DiGi.
Mobile Number Portability has just hit Malaysia. Officially launched just last Wednesday now Malaysians everywhere can switch from one provider to another and keep their existing mobile number. That’s a HUGE boon to consumers everywhere and honestly I am leaning towards switching to DiGi but will probably wait till their 3G services are launched.
The uber cool HTC Touch Pro.
I’ll most likely be buying over my bud J-son’s new HTC Touch Pro (as he can’t send emails out through it) and looking at how things are at work; getting an unlimited data line to access email and the web would be quite cool. I am heading out for meetings a little more these days and quite possibly I’d see an increase in that as I start liaising with clients more. Emailing them on the go is pretty good too cos’ sometimes I’m at church or somewhere else and taking some time in-between activities to answer emails would help pace things for me at work. There’s just a tonne to do in the office and sometimes it’s just quite overwhelming.
Convenience is something that all of us look for but that’s not true when it comes to God. Sometimes it seems as if God can be a convenience in life for some of us. I’m learning a lot more that God is NOT a convenience. He has good plans for us yes and I believe that how we feel and what we go through is on His mind too BUT our comfort & happiness is NOT the most important thing to Him. His relationship with me is what it’s all about. It’s about BEING not about striving. That seems so contradictory … how can I be if I do not first get there? I’m still figuring this out about God but I’m glad that I have Him.
As much as I struggle in my faith to make it real and to rest in Him; I have that deep assurance that He is the constant in my life. And I can be 100% honest with Him about the way I feel and the things I go through because He is the ONLY one who does not judge me. In Him there is true acceptance. Unlike Mobile Number Portability where we can switch from one provider to another; there is only one provider in life; God. I can’t explain it 100% but believing in God is not just about knowing it in our heads and hearts; it’s also about stepping out and putting a measure of faith in Him. I believe that’s what the Bible talks about when some of the authors in there write about how blessed are those who believe even though they have not seen.
I’m off to Bentong today. An old classmate from school just got married today and the dinner is on tonight. I have mixed emotions about seeing my old friends; I just hope they don’t egg me about whether or not I’m seeing someone. That question is always hard to take … especially at weddings.
It’s pretty cool that DiGI really does all kinds of stuff to really connect with their consumers. I think the whole DiGi CelebriTeen thing is such a wonderful idea. Maxis?! What the heck are you guys doing? Just having a dumb tagline like No 1 and most number of subscribers in Malaysia ain’t gonna cut it. There’s practically no value-add to using Maxis’ services. I’m seriously thinking of moving to DiGi next year once number portability hits. Why bring up DiGi now? Well cos’ I’m playing a small part in this year’s CelebriTeen contest!
Ju & this year's semi-finalists.
DiGi offers so much more to consumers. For eg. I was at Good Charlotte just a few months ago because I got an invite from MTV Asia and I was so envious of the DiGi customers who got to go into better viewing areas. The thing that slightly irked me was … hey! I’m in the industry and here I am out here with the rest of the world? What gives? Oh! My point really is that DiGi really gives back to the consumer. When was the last time Maxis ever gave anything free to their consumers? No free concerts. No nothing. I have personally not gotten a single privilege from Maxis that made me feel like a valued consumer. All we get from Maxis is bills, bills, bills! What a sucky thing it is to be a Maxis subscriber.
On a more positive note, it’s always wonderful to see Ju work with talent. Some of the kids really had a good thing going. There was this one kid Ashraf who had such a cool rock tone to his voice. He’s this small sized dude but man … the rock tone was just amazing. He’s my personal favourite of the lot. Here’s a pic of him doing his Ramli Sarip thing! Coolness!
Up, up & away Super-Ashraf!
At any rate we’ll be seeing more of them at the Semi-Finals that’s coming up on the 18th of August at Mahkota Parada Malacca. If any of you happen to be there swing by. I’ll be there with Ju and she’ll be guest judging. As a treat she’ll also be performing some songs for all of ya. Check it out!
