I quite enjoyed Larry Crowne today. It’s great to see Tom Hanks after not having seen him in awhile but the bigger treat was having Julia Roberts starring opposite him. The pair really do have chemistry and I guess that’s what makes Larry Crowne work at the end of the day (which is more than I can say for the awful pairing in Transformers: Dark of the Moon).
Be warned though. The movie starts off at a very slow pace and it only picks up somewhere towards the mid-way point of the movie. Some things I liked about Larry Crowne are:
- The characters are strong and smartly written. Real would be the word.
- The script’s funny. There are some fun gems in there but you might not get it cos’ maybe some of the jokes just appealed to my sense of humour.
- The lead characters are older and more mature characters; which is a refreshing change compared to most light romances that have a much younger cast.
- TOM HANKS of course! He’s a great actor and I’ve always liked him in feel-good movies. He has aged a lot though and it was quite a shock to see him looking so much older in this movie.
I give Larry Crowne a mature & funny 3 out of 5. It’s not the best that Tom Hanks has been in but it’s still a good effort.
