State of Play

A so-so movie. I didn’t like it as much … maybe cos’ I was expecting it to be more of a thriller. Russell Crowe is a great actor but I suppose it was just too slow moving for me and didn’t have enough suspense. The movie basically is one about the power of the press and touches on the emergence of Private Military Corporations in the U.S. It’s quite an insightful movie I suppose but then again having played Metal Gear Solid 4; the subject matter of the privatisation of the military is nothing new to me. It’s a frightening thought really since war isn’t supposed to be about profit or gain. A solid performance by Crowe and its nice to see Ben Affleck back on the silver-screen (not his best performance though). I wouldn’t really recommend this one if you’re looking for lighter fare.
